Field of flowers – Carlsbad, California

Spring is finally here and what better way to celebrate than to spend a day walking through the flower fields at Carlsbad Ranch in Carlsbad, California.  Last weekend was the perfect time to visit, the sun was shining when we arrived and the flowers were showing off their vibrant colors.

To help put Carlsbad on the map for you, it is located between Orange County and San Diego in Southern California. As you drive along the 5 freeway to the fields all you can see is desert landscape to the east and the Pacific Ocean to the west. In the 1880s a sailor dug a well in this area and began offering the water to travelers passing by. Tests were done on the water and it was found that it was chemically similar to the water found in Karlovy Vary, (Karlsbad) Czech Republic, one of the most renowned spa towns in the world.

You would never imagine to find a fifty acre field of colorful flowers in the California desert but for over sixty years the flowers have been blooming here. From early March through early May the fields burst with color.

Walking around the fields we took in the beauty and view of the ocean. Thankfully we had made it early because by noon the haze started to come in from the water. But that didn’t stop the hundreds of people who were visiting the fields and taking photos. Everywhere you looked families were posing for photos and instagrammers were trying to get that perfect shot. It was actually so entertaining to watch the people walk around and take photos that we sat on a bench for a while to people watch.

The fields were a treat to visit and have made for the most colorful post I’ve ever published, just in time for spring!  It was refreshing to be outside and enjoying mother nature’s beautiful work.

  4. Ahhhhh is this place for real?! This would be heaven for us. It’s too beautiful! Ben is so excited to get some hanging plants and flowers for our house. He’s always the one buying flowers and stuff (thank goodness for him!).
Also, I am in love with that top!
And I probably would’ve bought just about everything on the menu at that Strawberry Shortcake place. YUM!
So happy you got to experience this!
